Welcome to our blog

Welcome to our blog! The first thing I would like you to do is to write a few lines about yourself, your favourite places in London, plans for Christmas and New Year, or anything that interests you. Later on, I will ask you to contribute to the blog as authors!
You already know a little about me, so I'll tell you about my plans for Christmas this year. My mother and my sister are coming to London and I'm going to cook a traditional Christmas lunch, with roast turkey, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, and Christmas pudding with cream or brandy butter to finish. I haven't decided whether to get a Christmas tree this year - the last time I had a Christmas tree in my flat I was picking pine needles out of the soles of my feet for months afterwards!

  1. Hello everybody! I'm Yuki. I'd like to tell you about myself. I worked for a trading company before I came to London. I was in the Import Section and handled importations mainly from Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia and Germany. Living in London had always been my dream... and finally I' m in London! It's going to be the first time for me to spend New Year outside Japan. So I'm very excited even though I haven't got any plans to do! I'll just walk around the city centre to see what New Year in London is like.

    Hi everybody,

I would like to speak about one of my favourite places in London that I visited last week with a friend. It was Camden. I was really surprised by all the different types of food that we can eat like for example Mexican and Lebanese specialities.

I was also astonished by the huge market where we can find everything and whatever you want it's really different to Oxford Street for sure but this is charming.

People seem to be on another planet sometimes but they are really friendly for example we went in a bar(Hawley arms which was actually the favourite bar of Amy Winehouse)and we met a great tailor who entertained us.

I suggest you to go to Camden once.

  4. Hi this is Tuba. I would like to write about my New Year's Eve plan. Unfortunately, I am not able to go to abroad because I have been on holiday a lot this year. I am going to Littlehampton which is in the South of England and just next to the ocean. We will be 2 couples and the other couple has a very nice house which has got a chimney and it is my favourite in the house. We are planing to spend 4 days there and we will have a walk along the beach, riding a bicycle to enjoy the country side. I am going to enjoy reading my book which is called "Evening Class " written by Maeve Binchy ( I recommend it ). There is a game that is called " Tabu" and I love playing it. Also, there are some nice traditional pubs in the nearby villages. By the way, I love cooking and serving for my guests so I will definitly cook lots of food during my holiday.

  5. Hello everybody! I'm Hayley!

This Christmas, my best friend will be coming to London and then we are visiting her uncle's house in Derby.I'm really expecting to visit Derby and eat a traditional Christmas meal. Especially, This is my first visit to a real British family house. And Acutally I already met her uncle, He is so kind, friendly and funny and He is also expecting to meet me because my friend and her uncle is really close so he wants to meet her friend and be close so we are waiting to meet each other.
Actually, I was worried about Christmas because I heard most stores and restaurents will be closed and most British people visit their house. But, I think I'll be not lonely this Christmas.

  8. Hi Everyone! It's Chris here. I thought it was a great idea of Fiona's to set up a class blog.
I'm very excited about Christmas and New Year (as always!) and although I love my job, I'm counting down the days to when I can escape from London for a couple of weeks! :-)
I'll be going to Canterbury to stay with my parents and I already have lots of fun planned with my friends, who will also be heading south-east for the festive season.
Fiona-your Christmas dinner sounds delicious. I hope you have a lovely time with your mother and sister.
Yuki-if you want to experience the full party atmosphere of London at New Year, head to the river or Trafalgar Square. Otherwise, just get together with some good friends, good food and good drink at someone's house!
Daiki-I love the V&A too. My mother is 'a friend' of the museum (like a member) so I often get to go to special talks and 'private views' of exhibitions with her.
Naila-Camden's got quite a unique character, hasn't it? There's a great tapas bar there, not far from the station, but I can't remember the name.
Tuba-Your New Year plans sound perfect. Defintely my kind of winter holiday and food always plays an important role in my life!
Hayley-Getting to spend Christmas with a British family will be a wonderful experience and it'll be interesting for you to visit Derby. I went to a school friend's wedding there a few years ago.
Musaed-I didn't realise the year was 1433 in Saudi Arabia! I used to have a part-time job working in the fashion store Fenwick, in New Bond Street when I was at colllege (a long time ago!
Anyway, it's nearly 9pm and I still haven't finished my dinner, so I'd better be off. Catch you all soon....

  9. Hi everybody!!! I'm Valentina,
it's a pleasure to join this blog!
As you know, I'm from Italy and I live in Milan, where I study Law. I've decided to take three months off from classes to come here in London to improve my English, because in January I will try to pass two exams about International Law, both in English.
Next week I'm coming back to Italy, and, although I'm really excited to see my family and my friends, I'm sure I'm gonna miss London!
I really enjoyed my time here, London is just amazing!! My favourite place here it's Covent Garden.. I go there very often and each time I discover something new, I feel so good when I'm there!
I definitely consider Christmas the best period of the year, I love the atmosphere you can feel everywhere, with all these beautiful lights in the streets and all these songs you can hear when you enter in shops.. it's great!!
As always, I will spend my Christmas at home with all my family, whereas I'm going to Rome for the New Year's Eve with some friends.. I'm really excited about that!!
    Bye!!! :D
